The work

The client list is private. The work isn’t.

Every business on this page is invented, then built out properly at full size in the browser you are reading this in.

See what’s real here

Nothing here is client work, and there is not one figure on this page.

It is about time we looked at the coolant

Hello Dana —

You were in for brakes in the spring. Coolant and belts are the ones that bite when it turns cold, so we have held a Thursday morning with your name on it. Keep it or move it — the button does both.

DemonstrationThe reminder
Dane W.

Called on a Friday with a dead battery and somebody stayed open past closing to fit one. That is the whole review.

Marcy R.

Booked it on their own page late at night, dropped the keys in the box, and had a photograph of the split boot on my phone before anybody picked up a wrench. Only gripe: the lot is tight at lunchtime.

Response from the owner

Thanks Marcy. The lot is tight and we know it — if it is full, the spaces behind the building are ours as well. Glad the photograph helped. — Ray

Every surface here belongs to the same invented garage, and they share one set of photographs the way a real client’s would. The film is a still from the bay the listing puts in its gallery, and the reminder opens on the same doorway as the services page. That is what a brand actually is: not a logo, but the same room turning up wherever somebody meets you.

It is also why we sell these together rather than one at a time. A good site with a stale listing and nobody answering the reviews is three quarters of a business.

On the review card there is no star row. A rating we invented would still be a rating we invented, so it is simply not drawn, and neither is a review count, anywhere on this page.

Exhibit two · the range

A website is the easy part.
Here is the rest of it.

Different trades, different towns, all invented, and five surfaces the garage above never shows.

Grading and septic
in Kaukauna

Most of Kaukauna east of the river sits on clay over sandstone, which is why so many yards here hold water at the bottom of the slope and why the county wants a perc test before it will look at a permit.

  • Perc tests booked with the county
  • Mound and conventional systems
  • Driveways cut, graded and stoned
  • Yard drainage and swales

Branding

One library, every surface it appears on

Photographs are most of the work on a page like this, and the same set has to serve all of it.

Chosen once, cropped often

The front of the building

On the listing, on the site, and on the card that ends up in a window.

Where the site opens

The bay, mid-job

The frame the site opens on, and the still the short film is cut from.

The counter

Somebody picking up

The one picture that answers the question people actually have about a garage.

Shot underneath

The part, up close

What the film explains, and what the reminder opens on. One frame, two jobs.

The honest part

What’s real here, and what isn’t.

Worth writing down, because a page like this one is exactly where an agency would cheat.

A street where none of the sign boards say anything. So is this page.

Real

The making
Every screen above is live HTML and CSS in your browser, drawn by the same hands that would draw yours. Not one of them is a picture of a screen.
The photographs
Frames chosen and cropped for each slot the way we would choose them for a paying client, and graded so one page looks lit by one person.
The writing
Every line inside every drawing was written for that business, at the length its space allows. That is most of the work and almost nobody does it.
The standard
The same attention you would get on a paid job. If a demonstration is the only proof we can offer, a sloppy one would say more about us than a good one.

Invented

The businesses
Every name, every town, every owner. None of them exist, none of them are clients, and none of them ever were.
The domains
All on .example, a name the standards body reserved precisely so it can never resolve. Nothing above is live anywhere.
The phone numbers
Real area codes on the 555 exchange, inside the block set aside for fiction. Dialing one reaches nobody.
The details
The hours, the aisles, the chanterelles, the review and the owner’s answer under it. All written by us, for this page.

And there is not a number anywhere on this page. No result, no percentage, no count of anything. We could put figures here and you would have no way on earth to check a single one of them, which is exactly why the figures on pages like this are worth nothing. The work you can check with your own eyes, so the work is what we put up.

Three things we will not put on this page

All three are normal in this trade, and all three are easy. We will not do them, in writing.

A row of client marks is the easiest thing here to fake, and you would have no way to check one.

A result printed without the account behind it is a sentence, not evidence. Ours would be too, so we do not print them.

Client work is theirs, and usually under an agreement. What is on this page we made ourselves, start to finish, for this page.

Questions people actually ask

We publish no client names, and a name you cannot check is worth nothing to you anyway. So we make the work ourselves, label it plainly, and let you judge it with your own eyes.

Ask, and we will draw one. Tell us what you do and where you do it, and what comes back is built for that business rather than picked off a shelf.

No. Every domain here ends in .example, a name reserved so it can never resolve, and every phone number sits inside the 555 block set aside for fiction.

Because you could not check a single one of them, which is exactly why the figures on pages like this are worth nothing. The work you can check, so the work is what we put up.

Fully. Site, accounts, content and files in your name from the first day. Leaving takes an email, and we help you move.

Same hands, same standard. The difference is that yours is about a business that exists, so the photographs are your premises and the words are the ones you actually use.

Ask for one of these,
with your name on it.
